Description Plain green boards; front features gilt stamp of Simms's signature.  Green spine features ornate gilt stamp, all surrounded by a frame:  [stylized palm tree-frame] WAR | POETRY | of the | SOUTH | [close stylized palm tree-frame] | SIMMS | [abstract arrowhead-type emblem] | [ornate emblem with flame above stack of books, resting on scroll, with two quills crossing through scroll's bottom]  
Notes Included in this copy from the A. S. Salley collection were several clippings, all of which have been preserved.  This includes one that announces that "Copies dated 1866 are very scarce.  For a time the 1867 edition was considered to be the first printing;" two small advertisements for the book, which have been preserved together; and newspaper clippings of the following two poems, along with a note stating they were found between pp 132-33:  "All Quiet Along the Potomac To-Night" by Lamar Fontaine and "Another 'All Quiet,'" unsigned.
