    Notes Position: top right.

Simms has struck through the entire poem.

Kibler notes that the appearance of the poem in Areytos is dated 1835, ''thus dating from the time of his interest in Dorchester shown in his novel The Partisan'' (299).  This provides the composition date of circa 1835.
