Composition history Kibler notes that Simms published ''Bird's Eye View in Short Flights,'' a series of travelogues, in the Charleston Courier on June 7, 11, 12, 24, 25, and 27, 1867.  This is the second of these, and thus published on June 11.

While Simms has clipped the piece so that no name is visible, Kibler notes that these pieces are all signed ''Sagittarius.''
