Description ''It is the feminine feature in the con- ...''

    Clipping reads: LACONICS: | XII.
    Notes Position: top

These laconics reappear in Simms's 1853 collection Egeria: or, Voices of Thought and Counsel, for the Woods and Wayside.

While the clipping's date and place of publication cannot be confidently established, the masthead is partially visible on the reverse, and includes the partial words ''LITE'' and ''ARLESTON,'' suggesting that this was likely published in the Southern Literary Gazette, a periodical published out of Charleston to which Simms contributed works throughout his career.
