SIMMS AT A.L.A., SAN DIEGO, 1994
The Simms Society will conduct two sessions at the American Literature
Association meeting in San Diego in late May 1994. The first session will be
chaired by Rayburn S. Moore, with three papers. The second session will consist
of a meeting of the officers and members of the Executive Council of the Society
and/or a general discussion of the present state of Simms scholarship.
The Vice-President of The Simms Society will be responsible for setting
up future discussion and/or scholarly sessions of the Society at the annual
meetings of the A.L.A. It is not anticipated that there will be scholarly sessions at every meeting.

1995 SIMMS SYMPOSIUM, STARKVILLE, MISSISSIPPI
The Simms Symposium for 1995 will be hosted in mid-April by
Mississippi State University at Starkville. Submission of proposals for sessions
or proposed paper topics should be submitted to Dr. Miriam Shillingsburg by 15
January 1995. The program chair of the semi-annual Symposia in odd-numbered
years will serve as editor of the volume of papers to be published by the Mellen
Press. Beginning in 1995, the editor will be responsible for providing camera-
ready copy to the Press.


SIMMS SYMPOSIUM, CHAPEL HILL, 1996

The Simms Society has accepted David Moltke-Hansen's invitation to hold
its 1996 symposium at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.


SIMMS STORY IN ANTHOLOGY
In The Signet Classic Book of Southern Short Stories, edited by Dorothy
Abbott and Susan Koppelman (New York: Penguin, 1991), the lead story is by
Simms: "Confessions of a Murderer" (1829).
