Pseudonym Clytus is Greek word for ''famous'' and also a common Greek proper name (Kibler 44).

Clipping is the ninth of a twelve-part series of prose sketches about Florida that appeared in the Charleston Courier from Feb. 27 to May 9 of 1867 (Kibler 45).

In this ninth installment, Simms continues his journey through Florida and discusses an old Huguenot settlement and the history of St. Augustine.
