Call for Papers / Invitation to Attend

We cordially invite literary scholars, historians, and scholars from other disciplines to submit
paper proposals on topics related to Simms's life and achievements as a writer. We especially
invite papers for panel sessions on the following topics:

Simms and Appalachia (or the Southern Frontier)
Simms and Southern/American Humor
Simms and Greenville (and/or the Upstate of South Carolina)
History and Influence of Simms's Letters
Mary Simms Oliphant's contributions to Simms scholarship
Simms's Poetry / Simms as a Poet

CASH PRIZES FOR BEST GRADUATE STUDENT PAPERS
Three cash prizes ($500.00, $200.00, and $100.00) will be awarded to the best graduate student papers.
Reduced registration fees are also available for students who present papers and/or attend.

Send 1-2 page abstract / paper proposal by February 2, 2004 to
