Transcription afterword by the editor of the volume. .From now on the introduction
and afterword will be combined into a single introduction, prepared by
the volume editor.

Members of the Simms Society can help by asking their libraries to
purchase the volumes (a request to an acquisitions librarian is usually
all that's necessary), and by purchasing the volumes themselves those
already in print and the others as they appear. The Edition is on solid
financial footing, Arkansas Press is committed to finishing out the
series, and funds are in place to guarantee that this will happen. The
published volumes have sold respectably, but our mission will be
advanced by even stronger sales. This will put the volumes where they
belong, on the shelves of libraries and in the hands of individual
readers, as Simms himself would have wished. All of the volumes can
be ordered online at www.uapress.com, or through the mails from the
order department of the press at Mcllroy House, 201 Ozark Avenue,
Fayetteville, AR 72701 (800-626-0090).

I'm confident that we can finish the Simms Edition in good order. The
series will be an excellent resource for the study of the author and an
important repository of information about his literary career and writing
habits. The texts and annotations, available to all, will stimulate work
on his writings; and the Edition itself, when complete, will solidify his
achievement as one of the major American writers of his time.
