Transcription "Simms and the Celtic Base of Southern Culture"
a Topic at the Fifth Annual Abbeville Institute
Summer School

Both the editor and the assistant editor of The Simms Review attended
the Fifth Annual Abbeville Institute Summer School which was held at the St.
Christopher Conference Center on Seabrook Island, SC, from 11 — 15 June, 2007.
Dr Kibler's talk on "Simms and the Celtic Base of Southern Culture" was highly
appreciated by the audience among whom several outstanding members of the.
Simms Society, such as Dr William Wilson, Dr Clyde Wilson, Dr David Aiken
and the Summer School's initiator, Dr Donald Livingston, were to be found. The
Summer School's participants furthermore enjoyed a superb slide presentation on
the architecture, gardens, and literary heritage of Charleston given by Dr Kibler
with due regard to the traces Simms had left in the city. Those who stayed at Dr
Kibler's side during the ensuing tour through Charleston could learn even more
about the Charleston of Simms.
